English to Vietnamese Translation
Translating from English to Vietnamese can pose significant challenges for translators. One key reason for this is the contrast between the strict grammar rules of English language and the relative flexibility of Vietnamese. Although this sounds as if it might make translating easier, it in fact introduces far more subtleties to the process of translation, meaning translators must work harder to ensure their work sounds fully fluent and natural.
Translation difficulties are not only linguistic but cultural too. Concepts and ideas that are commonplace in Western culture may have no equivalent in Vietnam or may be so alien as to feel out of place in a piece of translated text. Only a translator with a deep knowledge of the culture of both countries is able to overcome these kinds of obstacles and render translations with the desired impact.

Vietnamese Translation Tips
Translation text expansion
When text in English is translated into Vietnamese, its length typically expands by 30 percent compared to the original. The space needed for Vietnamese text is therefore much greater than English, something that should be kept in mind when translating a document or website.
Complexity and variation
Although Vietnamese uses a variant of the Latin alphabet, it’s still considered a highly complex language due to its different tones (able to completely alter the meaning of a sentence) and its competing regional variations. Only a highly experienced translator will be able to provide translated content that sounds both natural and professional.

There are three key dialects within Vietnamese: Hanoi, spoken in the north, Saigon, spoken in the south, and Hue, spoken in the centre of the country. The Hanoi dialect is the most widely spoken and considered to be the standard form of the language.
Vietnamese Localization Tips
Localizing websites using hreflang meta tags
When translating a website it’s important to ensure that search engines are able to understand exactly what language (or languages) your content is available in. In addition to the language attribute on the <html>
tag, each page should also include a <head>
section in which links to its localized equivalent are listed.
If the primary language of your website is English, for example, and you want to translate it into Vietnamese, then every translated page should include the following block of code in the <head>
section:
<link rel="alternate" href="https://example.com/about/" hreflang="en" />
<link rel="alternate" href="https://example.com/vi/about/" hreflang="vi" />
Keep in mind that this block should be added to both the original and the localized versions of your page (in this case: example.com/about/ & example.com/vi/about/). By doing this, each page points to every available localized version of itself, making it easy for search engines to understand the structure of your site and display the appropriate translation for every user.
Targeting a language and a country
In addition to specifying the language that your content is written in, you can also specify particular countries that you would like to target. This is ideal for a language that is spoken in multiple countries, such as Vietnamese (spoken in Vietnam, as well as in emigrant communities in countries including the Czech Republic and the US). To do this, the country to be targeted is simply included in the hreflang attribute, like so:
<link rel="alternate" href="https://example.com/vi/" hreflang="vi" />
<link rel="alternate" href="https://example.com/vi-CZ/" hreflang="vi-cz" />
<link rel="alternate" href="https://example.com/vi-US/" hreflang="vi-us" />
