Numbers, Date and Address Formats
Numbers
- Please follow source format for numerals versus spelled-out form:
- Example: There are total 2 items in your cart.
- Correct Translation: আপনার কার্টে মোট 2টি উপকরণ রয়েছে।
- Incorrect Translation: আপনার কার্টে মোট দুইটি উপকরণ রয়েছে।
- Use the correct separators for Bengali:
- Example: Total payable amount: 1,00,000 rupees.
- Correct translation: মোট প্রদেয় পরিমাণ: 1,00,000 টাকা।
- Incorrect translation: মোট প্রদেয় পরিমাণ: 10,00,00 টাকা।
- For decimals, use periods: 16.8
- For large numbers, use commas: 50,000
Standard Date Format
- dd/mm/yyyy (১৩/০৬/২০১৯)
- ১৩ জুন ২০১৯
- পহেলা এপ্রিল
Time Format
In India time is presented as hh:mm
- am=পূর্বাহ্ন
- pm=অপরাহ্ন
Time can be presented in a 24 hours format as well. Short form of India Standard Time is IST.
For clock time, use colon:
- 1:30 PM or দুপুর দেড়টা or
- 2:37 PM or দুপুর 2টা 37 মিঃ

Use Bengali standards for symbols.

Punctuation Rules
Quotation Marks
- When the source includes quotation marks, follow the source.
- Example: “Hello, how are you doing today?”
- Translation: “হ্যালো, আজ আপনি কেমন আছেন?
- To differentiate tools, features, other important terms, and for direct speech, use double quotation marks to enclose the quote.
- Example: Shyam said, ‘I think it was Sarah who said “It was a mistake” more than once.’
- Translation: শ্রী শ্যাম বললেন,’আমার মনে হয় সারাই সেই ব্যক্তি যিনি একাধিকবার বলেছিলেন যে “এটা ভুল ছিল”।’
Spacing Before and After Punctuation
There should be no spaces after text and before punctuation marks.
Special Symbols
Special characters should be spelled out:
- # – নম্বর / হ্যাশ
- % – শতাংশ
- + – যোগ
- x – গুণ
- – – বিয়োগ
- = – সমান
